OpenAI teases a new open source AI model 👀 

OpenAI has announced plans to release a new "open-weight" AI model in the coming months. This will be their first open-weight release since GPT-2 in 2019. Open-weight models provide access to their trained weights, allowing developers and researchers to run them on personal hardware. However, they may still have licensing restrictions regarding modifications and commercial use ✅ 

CEO Sam Altman shared that OpenAI has been considering this move for some time but prioritized other projects until now. OpenAI also plans to host developer events worldwide to showcase early prototypes and gather feedback 📈 

This initiative is seen as a step toward democratizing AI, offering greater transparency, and enabling customization for specific applications. It also positions OpenAI to compete with other companies like DeepSeek and Google, which have adopted similar approaches.

Amazon’s new AI agent is designed to do your shopping 🛍️ 

Amazon has unveiled its latest AI model, Nova Act, designed to assist users with online shopping and other browser-based tasks. Currently available to developers in a "research preview," Nova Act can perform tasks like web searches, making purchases, and answering on-screen queries. It even understands detailed instructions, such as avoiding optional add-ons during transactions 👀 

Nova Act is part of Amazon's Nova AI family, which includes models for language understanding, image generation, and video creation. Amazon emphasizes the cost-effectiveness and speed of these models, claiming they are 75% less expensive than competitors. Nova Act is already integrated into the upgraded Alexa Plus assistant, showcasing its capabilities in real-world applications 📈 

Musk merges X and xAI in $113B deal 🤝 

Elon Musk's AI startup, xAI, has officially acquired the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) in an all-stock transaction. The deal values xAI at $80 billion and X at $33 billion, which includes $12 billion in debt. Musk announced the merger on X, describing it as a step to intertwine the futures of the two companies by combining their data, AI models, computational power, and talent.

This acquisition places X under the umbrella of xAI, which Musk founded in 2023 to compete with AI giants like OpenAI and Google DeepMind. The merger is expected to enhance xAI's capabilities by leveraging X's vast user-generated data and real-time interactions. Musk highlighted that this integration would unlock immense potential by blending xAI's advanced AI expertise with X's extensive reach, which includes over 600 million active users ✅ 

The deal also involves the creation of a new holding company, xAI Holdings Corp, to streamline operations and attract investments. Musk's AI chatbot, Grok, which is integrated into X, is expected to benefit significantly from this merger, gaining access to real-time language streams and user interactions 🤖 

ChatGPT’s improved image generation is now available for free ✅ 

OpenAI has made its GPT-4o-powered image generation feature available to all ChatGPT users, including those on the free tier 😃 

Initially exclusive to paid subscribers, this feature faced delays in its rollout to free users due to overwhelming demand. The update allows free users to generate up to three images per day, with the tool gaining popularity for its ability to create Studio Ghibli-style art 🎨 

The feature has been a viral sensation, with users flooding social media platforms with Ghibli-style renditions of various subjects. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman announced the rollout on April 1, 2025, and acknowledged the high demand, joking about the strain on their GPUs. The company has also introduced rate limits to manage server capacity.
